The Laserjet 5500dn Cartridges Takes Everything
The HP Color LaserJet 5500dn printer using HP Color LaserJet 5500dn laser toner is one of the printers that HP has built on the 5500 model. This particular version has HP’s Jetdirect print server built in to allow for fast Ethernet two sided printing. It also included an additional five hundred sheet feeder tray that is not included in the base model and a stand.
Built into all the 5500 printers is a 160 MB SDRAM. For more memory, the SDRAM can be increased to 544 MB. Additionally, a 10 GB hard drive can be added that can store often used documents.
You will find that the print speed is faster than that of previous models. The machine is now able to print in color and black at 21 ppm. The first print can be produced in as little as 18 seconds when the machine is in the ready state. From a cold start or when the machine is first turned on in the morning, the delay may be two minutes as the machine takes time to warm up and go through its cycling process.
The 400 MHz processor included in this machine makes connection to most computers very easy. One complaint that is sometimes heard is that the print driver is slow to install on the networked computers for this printer. However, the speed of prints makes waiting on the installation worthwhile.
This LaserJet 5500dn replacement toner uses an in line color and black process that applies toner directly to the pages in a 600×600 dpi process that produces clear text and color prints. Colors are found to be both realistic and bright. Text is also crisp.
The printer as sold has two paper trays that hold a total of 600 pages. If more capacity is needed, an additional two trays can be added to bring the total capacity to 1,600 sheets. Envelopes can be fed through the MP tray with stacks of up to 20 envelopes being loaded at once. Paper from legal size to ledger size may be used for printing. In addition, transparencies, labels and card stock can be fed through the machine with little trouble.
Prints are stored in a 250 sheet output tray. There are no upgrades of this tray available from HP. In addition a sorter or stapler is not available for this printer.
Duplex printing (printing both sides of the page) is available as a standard feature of this machine. Two-sided prints are also found to be high in quality.
HP includes a one year standard on site warranty for this machine. In addition, the package includes full cartridges of all four toners that are needed to start printing immediately. You will find all the software needed to use this printer with either a PC or Mac computer.
