Methods To Fix Light Flicker

Most of us have seen light flickering in our homes. It is a serious electrical flow and is quite irritating. Flickering of lights may damage the electrical gadgets and can even cause electrical fire in houses.

Flickering of lights is not linked to nature; it is the effect of some trouble with the electrical wiring in the house or a bad gadget being used. Following paragraphs will tell us the causes of this problem and its remedies.

First and the foremost step is to examine the connections between the bulb and its holder. For a loose connectivity, the bulb will constantly flicker till the time you switch it off. Finding any loose connections, tighten them quickly.

If still the flickering continues, look at the bulbs. If either bulb appears to be very dark near either end the bulb is defective or close to failure. Bulbs usually flicker when they are about to burn.

Faulty socket to which an appliance is connected also cause the flickering. If this is the case, call an electrician and replace the socket for a new one.

But what if, the outlet and the connections are alright. Well, this is a clear case of heavy loads. As and when the heavy load appliances ate turned on, the light fluctuates. Since, turning on the appliance simply causes high voltage drop thereby increasing the current flow.

At times, there is no problem with the outlet and connections are also fine, but, the appliance you have connected with the supply is bad. For example, your electric water motor may have something like a bearing failure, which causes the motor to work harder on startup, drawing more current and making a more noticeable flicker.

If we fail to locate the exact reason for persistent flickering in the house, we should summon a certified electrician and test the home wiring. Certain appliances which are sensitive to surge current can be protected by surge protectors.
