Main elements of first aid kits
Having first aid supplies and more particularly first aid kits around in your house, your car or at work should be something common for all of us, but this is not the case yet.
People do not have the reflex yet to buy first aid kits and put them in their cars and house or flat.
As accidents can happen at any time in your home or when you are outdoors, you need to know what is in it or what you should put in it if you want to make your own first aid kits.
Ideally, first aid kits should include a first aid manual that it is advised to read when you buy your kit. This manual is made to explain how to use the first aid kit you have.
You will then need to have a pair or two of sterile gloves you will use to deal with a wound or a graze so that your bear hands do not touch the injured area. The third element of the kit will be sterile gauze in order to clean the wound properly. You will obviously need tape and bandages to dress the wound once it has been cleaned. A pair of sharp scissors and a safety pin are obviously needed to cut the gauze or the tape.
It is also important to have soap, alcohol wipes and other antiseptic solutions to help clean the wound. Any extra medication like paracetamol is good to have with you as well as antibiotic cream. You will need as well to have calamine lotion and a thermometer in your kit, as well as a list of the emergency numbers you might need to use in case there is an accident. It is also good to have a mouthpiece for administrating CPR that can usually be obtained from your local Red cross and a flashlight.
I would say that these are the main elements, and the list really is bigger than that, so it is always better to check with specialists if you want to make your own first aid kits and if you need to buy first aid supplies.
It is important to check from time to time the date of the medicine you have in your first aid kit as you would not want to have something out of date the day you need it. The same goes with the creams or tape. Make sure you have enough, or if you have just used your first aid kits, do a quick check up in case you need to buy something.
