I did My Own Gift Hamper

I was stuck on what to get my parents for Christmas. I didn’t have much time left and I really did not have the time to go seek out something in the mass exodus of shoppers that crowed the streets in the lead up to the festive period.

On the other hand I could not just get them a card. So I decided I would give them a personal gift from me, something I had made with my own hands. The question was what to make? It had to be something she liked, something that would not take too long and something that I could get hold of quickly.

I know they both love Italian food so I decided to make them an Italian food gifts hamper. I surfed the web and visited many gift shops, department stores and Italian delicatessens which sold food gifts and food hampers and noted the different styles and types. I was tempted to just buy a pre-made gift hamper but decided that creating my own gift hampers would be cheaper and more rewarding in the long run.

First I started by buying several food gifts that fit their personality and tastes. In their case it was mainly Italian food. I ordered a load of Italian food online including extra virgin olive oil from Tuscany, balsamic vinegar, pasta, basil pesto, a jar of Mostarda, Baci chocolates, Mulino Bianco biscuits and a hand cut wedge of soft panforte to name a few things. Oh and several bottles of wine too!

Once all the food arrived I then went to the local garden centre and brought a large wicker basket which I think was meant for flowers of some sort. I filled the container with tissue paper, and strategically placed all the items into the baskets. Once I had done this I placed the now rather heavy basket onto some decorative cellophane and wrapped it around the basket and using some coloured ribbon tired the cellophane together at the top. Phew it looked better then I expected and so I topped it off with a large bow and a gift tag.

All I needed to now do was give it to them and watch them enjoy the gift and see how much effort I had put into their gift. Not much actually but hey don’t tell them. So I wrote this to just show how easy a gift hamper is to assemble.

Trust me if I can get it right then most people can. I know now what everyone is getting from now on for any future occasion that comes up. But hey if you don’t have the time them I would suggest buying a gift hampers instead for a loved one or a family member as they make a great present.
